Pre-match: Sadler hoping for another memorable occasion at the Poundland Bescot Stadium

19 April 2024

Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler is hoping the team will once again be backed by a large, vocal support at the Poundland Bescot Stadium in a game he feels the players will need to show the same determination and quality as they did against Swindon Town on Tuesday night.

The Saddlers take on Bradford City at the Poundland Bescot Stadium on Saturday, the final home league game of the 2023/24 season.

A victory will keep the Saddlers in the play-off hunt heading into next weekend’s season finale and Sadler is hoping the team can produce another magical moment in WS1 with the fantastic backing of the Saddlers faithful and show similar qualities that helped win three points in midweek.

“We have to want to be the team who wants to come out on top at the end of that game,” Sadler said.

“We’re at home, hopefully there is a large support there. I know there will be so many supporters that will be desperate to get down there so I urge that backing, to sing throughout the whole of it and keep driving us forward.

“Rewind 10 months ago when I first did these interviews and spoke then about what an important part the supporters will play and do play for this football club. That has continued to be the case and will continue to hugely be the case going into Saturday’s game.

“I just urge as many as possible to be there, to support us, to shout loud and to shout proud. We wanted to give you a team to be proud of, hopefully we’re doing that.

“We want to give you moments like we have done throughout the season, we’ve had loads of amazing moments at home in front of our supporters and we want to give you some more.

“We’re under no illusions about what a tough game it’s going to be. We’re going to have to show all the things we showed on Tuesday night and countless times throughout the season, we’re going to have to show it all over again.”

Sadler’s men head into tomorrow’s encounter in good shape after welcoming back Tom Knowles from injury and with Brandon Comley available again after serving a suspension on Tuesday.

The Head Coach provided the latest update on Oisin McEntee, Jackson Smith, Jack Earing as well as long term absentee, Harry Williams as he hopes to further options at his disposal.

“Oisin trained (on Thursday) so he’s not too far away,” Sadler revealed.

“Whether or not this weekend, we’ll see, if not certainly next weekend.

“Jacko is still going through his concussion protocol and Jack is probably a little bit away still so we most likely won’t see him on Saturday.

“Apart from that, the treatment room has emptied significantly. Harry is still in there at the moment, we won’t see him before the end of this season but it’s emptied significantly so we’ve got loads of options to call on and loads of tough decisions for myself to make.

“Brandon comes back in after suspension so there’s another one to come back into the mix and I look forward to seeing the guys, the energy they’ve all shown. Training was bright and really sharp; you can see everyone is ready to play.”
