Mat Sadler looking forward to Accrington test

19 January 2024

Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler is looking forward to facing Accrington Stanley on home soil this Saturday afternoon.

With three home league wins on the bounce, Sadler knows whoever comes to the Poundland Bescot Stadium will find it tough to carve out a result against his side.

Sadler will not be heading into the game overly confident however as he knows each game is a different challenge.

“Every single game is different at this level,"he said.

"We know Accrington are an extremely hard-working team and they have not been out of the top half of the table for the whole season. They are a very, very good team with aspirations of pushing for the playoffs.

“They will certainly come at us, and we will have to be right on top of our game to continue that form. We are under no illusions of how tough a game it will be, and we will have to be right on top of it.”

Sadler is pleased that ahead of the Accrington Stanley game, a couple of players have recovered from injury in time to face the Owd Reds.

“Ross Tierney is fully back now which is brilliant," he stated.

"He is right back into the group and Joe Riley is very, very close and has trained with us this week so we will make a decision on him for the weekend.

“Jamille Matt is very close and trained with us today so we will make a decision for the weekend. Loads of the lads are coming back and that is down to the really hard work from the medical team.”

It is not only players returning from injury that will give the team a boost on Saturday but also new signing Mo Faal who could make his debut this weekend.

“Mo is a local lad and is someone that I have been looking at for a long, long time so when he became available, we knew it was something we wanted to do,” Sadler discussed.

“Someone with Mo’s physicality and the way that he plays the game you kind of have an eye to suggest he’s ready.

“He has gone and proven that, coming to us off the back of a really successful loan spell at Doncaster Rovers so we are delighted to have him and he goes straight into selection for the weekend.”
