Walsall midfielder Isaac Hutchinson feels the team have a good opportunity to show what they’re about in tomorrow’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Championship outfit Southampton.
The Saddlers head to St Mary’s in good form having won their last three league matches, scoring 11 goals in the process.
Hutchinson is expecting a good footballing encounter which he believes will suit the Saddlers and give them a platform to go and give a good account of themselves.
“I think it’s a really good opportunity for us to see where we’re at as a team and to showcase where we’re at as a team,” he said.
“I think we’ve got to go and enjoy the game. The quality of the game will be good and I think it suits us because we’ve got a lot of good footballers who that lends itself to play to their strengths.
“In general, it will be a good game of football and I hope that we can be at the right end of the result.”
The 23-year-old scored twice in Monday’s 6-1 win over Grimsby Town to take his tally to 11 for the season, making him the team’s outright top scorer for the campaign so far.
He has surpassed the eight he netted last season and is pleased to have continued to build on his numbers.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve done anything different as such, I’ve had a bit more confidence on the back of last season to know that I can get goals and it’s made me want to do it more,” Hutchinson explained.
“I’ve tried to think about the process and not the outcome. It would have been easy at the start of the season to say I want to get X number of goals but I’ve tried to think ‘what do I need to do to get the goals?’
“That might be to take more shots, get in to the six-yard box more from crosses so that’s been my thinking and at the moment, it’s paid off.”
