Taylor Allen keen to keep building momentum

23 February 2024

Versatile Walsall player Taylor Allen believes it is important that the Saddlers keep the strong momentum going as they face Harrogate Town on the weekend.

With the table so congested, Allen thinks that the past two results have given the Saddlers real confidence heading into Saturday’s game.

“We know the threat that Harrogate can pose. The two results we have had have gone now but it’s obviously given us confidence going into the next couple of games coming up,” Allen said.

“We go into Saturday with a high off the last two games, but we are still grounded and know what we need to do to get the result at their place.

“We have got to learn from the last two games as well, obviously nothing is perfect, there are points where in the game we feel we can improve.”

Due to the injury of club captain Donervon Daniels, Allen has had to lineup in the unfamiliar position of left centre back but is nonetheless happy to help the team, no matter the position.

“I’ve played a few positions, and the gaffer has said to me a few of times that he knows I can play in different positions, so I’ve had to be ready to go into any role on the pitch,” Allen explained.

“Left centre back is where I am playing now so I have just got to listen to the right people, look at my clips, see where I can improve and take it game by game.

“I watch a lot of football, have a good understanding of football so that’s why I feel like I’m ready to go into any position. For now, I know the left centre back position is something I will need to work on and help the team in.”

On Tuesday night against Morecambe, Allen received the captain’s armband towards the end of the game, which he found a special moment in his career.

“It was definitely a special moment. Obviously, Jamille Matt has played a big part in my career. I have played with him for a couple of years now,” Allen discussed.

“He has really helped me through a lot, so it was really nice that we both got the armband and being from the town it was a nice little touch at the end of the game.”
