Job Purpose:

To manage and implement the Club’s Medical Programme, providing daily prevention, diagnosis and treatment of injuries to players in the Professional Phase at Walsall Football Club and oversee the Academy Medical Department.

Responsibilities:

·         Daily management of injured players – initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis, onward referral for imaging/consultation, treatment, rehab planning, gym and outdoor rehab delivery until fill return to training.  Ensuring end stage rehab data is sufficient to warrant a return to training/play.

·         Contacting, discussing and arranging external consultations, imaging and other medical appointment for playing staff.

·         Liaise with Club Doctor (and Local GP) as required to ensure ongoing medical care of both sporting and non-physiotherapy issues.

·         Training and pitch side emergency aid for First Team training and match days (Home and Away).

·         Delivery of injury reports/notifications to Coaching Staff and Line Managers/Directors via face-to-face meetings and other communicable means.

·         Management of Benchmark54 system in terms of inputting daily training and injury data plus the management of medical notes/documents within the system.  Making sure this is up to date and compliant to maintain accurate information share with EFL injury surveillance audit.  Maintain back-up files of medical documents.

·         Management of the FA’s Anti-Doping whereabouts system to ensure Daily/Weekly attendance and schedules are up to date.

·         Production and updating of Training Ground and Match Day Emergency Action Plans in case of serious incident/injury.

·         Management of the Club PMI.

·         Management of stock and ordering medical consumable supplies.

·         Overseeing Medical Interns.

·         Guide and assist the Academy Lead Physiotherapist where required in terms of medical management, whilst also ensuring between the departments that adequate medical cover is supplied for Reserve/Development Team fixtures (Home and Away)

 

Considerations:

·         Availability to work irregular/unsociable hours as requested, evening and weekend hours to be expected.

·         Overnight stays for some away fixtures.

·         Potential change of working schedule within 24hrs.

 

Essential/Desirable Qualifications:

Essential:

·         BSc Physiotherapy.

·         Member of the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

·         Valid ATMMiF qualification or recognised equivalent.

·         Eligibility to work in the UK.

·         UK Driving Licence.

 

Desirable:

·         MSc (Hons) in related field.

·         Experience of working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team within a Sports Medicine environment preferably with elite athletes.

 

Personal Specifications:

·         Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and individually when required.

·         Excellent communication skills in order to build positive relationships with player staff and other internal/external personnel.

·         Sound knowledge of manual therapy skills and sports rehabilitation.

·         Experience of working under pressure and to deadlines.

·         Must be flexible and be willing to work hours as necessary to carry out their duties.

·         Committed to ongoing CPD.
