Ross Tierney determined to improve on last weekend's draw

1 September 2023

Walsall midfielder Ross Tierney is hoping the team can build on last weekend’s draw with Grimsby Town when they take on Colchester United tomorrow.

Tierney has started the last three matches for the Saddlers and will be hoping to be involved against the U’s at the Poundland Bescot Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

The 22-year-old is looking forward to tomorrow’s encounter and is determined to improve on last weekend’s draw against a Colchester team who will be buoyed after beating high-flying Gillingham last time out.

“They’re coming off a good result and we’re coming off a disappointing result in terms of our standards and where we want to go,” Tierney said.

“On Saturday we felt we could have got more out of the game, especially in the first half but we’re looking forward to Saturday and hopefully we can kick on and get a couple more wins at home as well.

“Against Stockport we were really good, against Brighton we weren’t at our best and then on Saturday I think we deserved more than a point but it was good to get at least a point coming from behind.”

Tierney has settled in well to life in the West Midlands after joining on loan from Motherwell.

The Irishman is aiming to continue making a positive contribution after a positive start and he is happy with how things are going personally so far.

“I’ve enjoyed it,” he commented.

“After the Blackburn game we’ve had a couple of results that went our way, a couple that didn’t.

“I want to score as many goals and be involved in as many goals as I can. On Saturday against Grimsby, I could have had at least one and I should have had a penalty but it is what it is.

“It’s been good and I’m loving life at the moment.”
