Hutchinson confident in his scoring ability

5 September 2023

Walsall midfielder Isaac Hutchinson is confident in his ability to find the net from distance and was pleased to do just that in the 1-0 victory over Colchester United on Saturday.

The 23-year-old scored his second of the season with a sensational strike from 25-yards out.

Hutchinson was delighted with his goal for a number of reasons but feels he is benefitting from believing in himself when he gets into those positions.

“When it gets on the edge of the box like that, I’ll always back myself,” he said.

“I think that’s what the gaffer and the other boys, like Donervon, say (to me) that around the box it’s your time to do what you do and I think that’s a strength of mine.

“I was desperate to score against them for my own reasons so to score and get the win, I’m buzzing."

The Saddlers picked up their second win of the campaign against the U’s and while the team had plenty of opportunities to make the scoreline more comprehensive, the team also had to dig deep towards the end to preserve the three points.

Hutchinson felt the support of the Saddlers fans at the Poundland Bescot Stadium helped drive the team and he was relieved that they managed to get over the line.

“When we’re in those sorts of positions when we’re ahead in the closing stages, you always feel that little extra bit to get you over the line,” he commented.

“We’ve had a couple of weeks where we’ve not got over the line and I think that was in the back of everyone’s minds so there was probably a bit of extra determination and anxiety as well but confidence wise, that will do us the world of good.”
