Walsall midfielder Oisin McEntee has called on the players to continue where they left off against Gillingham and impose themselves against Newport County this evening.
The Saddlers will be aiming to earn back-to-back victories following last weekend’s 4-1 win over Gillingham.
McEntee is hoping the team can repeat last week’s performance but insists they must earn the right to stamp their authority on the match against the Exiles.
“The gaffer always says earn your way into the game,” McEntee said.
“That might be winning a tackle, winning a header or just getting after someone early doors. Don’t be gung-ho straight away and when the game does settle down after the frantic first few minutes, then you can impose yourself on the game and I think we found the right balance against Gillingham.
“When we can play like that, we should be playing like that every week. We should be starting on the front foot.
“Against Sutton, we didn’t start on the front foot but against Gillingham we were all over them straight away, we were trusting ourselves in the way we play and we were stamping our foot on the game.
“If we do that, we should have a good day but it’s all about showing up on the day, sticking to the game plan and not having a slow start.”
McEntee has found a new home in midfield this season.
He is starting to feel more comfortable in his new position but admitted it’s been challenging to adapt.
“It’s been tough at times but really enjoyable as well,” he commented.
“I’m trying to learn off everyone, pick peoples brains and just try and get pictures in my head of different scenarios in games and I am getting a lot more comfortable in it and feeling a lot more natural in that position so as the games go on, I feel a lot better.”
