Andy Williams discusses Stevenage trip

10 March 2023

Walsall striker Andy Williams insists the team are working hard to be on the right side of the fine margins and has urged everyone to stick together.

The Saddlers have been on a frustrating run of results that has seen eight draws out of the last 11 matches.

Williams feels the team are close to turning their fortunes around and believes a victory will boost morale around the camp.

“I think that we are a group, whether we like it or not and I don’t know how we massively change it, that is a confidence group and I genuinely think that we can get that little bit of the rub of the green,” he explained.

“We have had a lot of draws. Even the defeat against Barrow, we were disappointed with the 1-0 defeat and it was a fine margin again.

“I think it’s about falling on the right side of things if we can and that will really kickstart us. I think we just need a bit more positivity and confidence with the ball at our feet but that unfortunately comes with wins, it’s kind of like which one comes first.

“I think we all need to stick together as a club, not just as a group of players because we are trying our hardest to stick together and the results show as we are close in every game.

“We are working so hard for every point that we are getting at the moment and hopefully that will change and the points will start to come a little bit easier with wins rather than draws.”

The Saddlers travel to Stevenage tomorrow and will be aiming to get back to winning ways.

The 36-year-old admitted that the Lamex Stadium is always a difficult place to go and pick up points but is confident the team are more than capable of competing with them given the result in the reverse fixture back in August.

“Stevenage are a really solid team,” he said.

“We saw that from them earlier on the season. We dominated the game against them here at our place and we only got a point out of it.

“I think that was possibly a bit of a turning point for us and it probably was for them as well, they have been on a great run since then.

“I think of late they have come off it just a little bit but they are a good team, they are solid, they are a really good League Two team and that is why they are up there. It is never an easy place to go and we have to make sure that we are doing the minimum of what we have been doing recently to get something from the game.”
