Danny Johnson hoping to put on a show against Blackburn Rovers

8 August 2023

Walsall striker Danny Johnson hopes the team can put on a show against Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup this evening.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s opening day defeat to Morecambe.

Johnson is determined to get a positive result, progress to the next round and build some momentum to take into this weekend’s home league clash with Stockport County.

He hopes the team can enjoy the occasion this evening and show what they can do against a higher calibre of opposition.

“You’re going to be playing against better players, you want to put on a show playing against those type of clubs,” Johnson said.

“It’s a little bit of a distraction from the league, we can go there and enjoy the day, put on a performance and take that back into the league.

“There’s no pressure there, they’re a Championship side, the pressure is all on them. We’ve got to rock up and spoil their day, hopefully get a positive result, get through to the next round and take that into Stockport next weekend.”

Johnson found the net on the opening day with a clinical finish at the Mazuma Stadium.

He’s pleased to be off the mark at the first attempt and is now looking to use that as a springboard for the rest of the season.

“From last year when I scored, I’ve put pressure on myself coming back, I want to score goals again,” he commented.

“I’ve done it in the first friendly and I wanted to get that first goal at the start of the season. I’ve got that now and I can put that behind me and move forward into the season.”
