Hayden White and Michael Flynn look ahead to Barrow trip

15 August 2022

Walsall defender Hayden White was gutted not to keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet on Saturday but is keen to get back on track against Barrow this evening.

The Saddlers dropped points for the first time this season but are still unbeaten after a 1-1 draw with Stevenage on Saturday.

Barrow’s 100 per cent start in the league also came to an end at the weekend so both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways.

White is expecting a good test against the Bluebirds and says the defensive unit are desperate to return with a clean sheet as well as three points tonight.

“It’s us five in there plus Owen (Evans) the goalkeeper as well and we were the angriest ones in there (on Saturday) because we wanted that fourth one but it wasn’t to be,” White said.

“We’ve got a long trip to Barrow and hopefully we can put it right there.

“I know in previous games they’ve started off well so it will be a good game for us.”

The Saddlers embark on the first of two away games in the space of four days as tonight’s visit to Cumbria is followed by a trip to Gillingham on Saturday.

Head Coach Michael Flynn is confident his team can impose themselves on Barrow as they look to return to winning ways but he is also aware of the challenges his side will face.

“It’s going to be tough,” Flynn said.

“A lot of travelling and we might have to freshen it up so we’ll analyse Barrow and see where we can improve.

“They’ve started exceptionally well. There is no easy game in this division, it’s going to be a tough evening but we’ve got to believe we can cause them problems and hopefully get the three points.

“It’s a long journey, followed by another long journey and we’ve just got to make sure we stick together and try not to get any injuries.”
