Clarke hoping to see improvement from the Saddlers

10 October 2019

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke is hoping to see a positive response from his players when they take on Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The Saddlers will be looking to get back to winning ways at the Breyer Group Stadium this weekend following a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Salford City last week.

Clarke says himself and the players have worked on the things that didn’t go well against Salford but is hoping to see their work at the training ground translate on the pitch.

“The response has to be at 3pm Saturday,” Clarke said.

“The lads have trained very well and they’ve just got to keep improving.

“I was disappointed with one or two different aspects and I made my feelings known and we’ll learn.

“I won’t accept certain things but that’s been addressed. First and foremost you look at your own performance as a manager as well. I don’t think I got all of my decisions right on Saturday; the players certainly didn’t so we assessed it on Monday morning and get back to the training ground to work hard on those things.”

There will be a healthy away following heading to London on Saturday.

Clarke has been delighted with the support the team has received and is keen to reward them.

“We’re delighted with the support we’re getting,” he commented.

“We’ve let them down a bit at home so far this season. We know we’ve got to get our home form going and get our own punters going, we understand that but they can see what’s been needed at this football club for a long time and it’s a slow burner, we’re going to have dark days but we go together.

“This is where you get the real good fans. Like you say there’s over 750 coming down to support the team and it’s my job as a manager to make sure we don’t have too many performances like Saturday and I don’t think we’ve had too many in the first quarter of the season.”

You can still purchase tickets for Saturday’s trip to Leyton Orient by calling the ticket office on 01922 651 414/416.
