The Saddlers’ last victory over Scunthorpe came in February 2012…

2014/15 League One Season

10th January 2015 – Walsall 1-4 Scunthorpe

The Iron earned an emphatic victory when the two sides last met in January. James Chambers’ own goal and debutant Tom Hopper’s clever finish gave Mark Robins’ men a commanding lead at the break. Michael Cain halved Walsall’s deficit six minutes into the second half, but two goals in three minutes from Paddy Madden (penalty) and Neal Bishop sealed a straightforward success.
Saddlers team: O’Donnell, Taylor, O’Connor, Downing, J Chambers, A Chambers, Sawyers (Manset 77’), Cain, Forde (Flanagan 72’), Bradshaw, Cook (Grimes 72’).
Subs not used: MacGillivray, Purkiss, Benning, Baxendale.

30th August 2014 – Scunthorpe 2-1 Walsall
Newly-promoted Scunthorpe earned their first league victory of the season to leapfrog the Saddlers. Two quick-fire second-half strikes proved the difference; Hakeeb Adelukan’s solo effort broke the deadlock before Gary McSheffrey curled a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner. Tom Bradshaw netted Walsall’s consolation when he capitalised on a defensive mix-up with 20 minutes remaining.
Saddlers team: O’Donnell, Taylor, O’Connor, Downing, J Chambers (Holden 8’), Clifford, A Chambers, Grimes (Baxendale 41’), Forde (Morris 77’), Bradshaw, Manset.

2012/13 League One Season

13th April 2013 – Scunthorpe 1-1 Walsall
Niall Canavan’s 88th-minute header denied play-off chasing Walsall victory at Glanford Park. Will Grigg converted Craig Westcarr’s pull-back to put the visitors in front shortly after half-time. But in the closing stages, Canavan nodded home substitute Mike Grella’s cross to earn struggling Scunthorpe a vital point in their fight against relegation.
Saddlers team: Johnstone, Holden, Purkiss, Downing, J Chambers, A Chambers, Mantom, Grigg, Paterson, Brandy, Westcarr (Baxendale 85’).
Subs not used: Roberts, Benning, Featherstone, Sawyers, Hemmings, Bowerman.

6th November 2012 – Walsall 1-4 Scunthorpe
Niall Canavan scored a brace as Scunthorpe eased to a resounding victory in Brian Laws’ first match back in charge of the Iron. Canavan’s header and Mark Duffy’s tap-in gave the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead. Scunthorpe’s David Prutton was sent off for a professional foul on Adam Chambers, but further goals from Canavan and Leon Clarke put the result beyond doubt. Wil Grigg replied for the well-beaten hosts in added time.
Saddlers team: Grof, Butler, Holden, J Chambers (Benning 66’), Taundry, Featherstone, A Chambers, Jones (Grigg 46’), Baxendale (Williams 81’), Paterson, Bowerman.
Subs not used: Walker, Downing, Morris, Hemmings.




2011/12 League One Season
21st February 2012 – Scunthorpe 0-1 Walsall
Florent Cuvelier scored the only goal to lift Walsall out of the League One relegation zone. Garry Thompson volleyed wide for the hosts early on before Cuvelier, on loan from Stoke, side-footed past Scunthorpe stopper Sam Slocombe to seal a valuable victory.
Saddlers team: Grof, Sadler, Butler, Lancashire, A Chambers, Hurst, Taundry, Cuvelier (Peterlin 89’), Grigg (Beevers 82’), Paterson, Nicholls (Macken 62’).
Subs not used: Walker, Bowerman.

17th September 2011 – Walsall 2-2 Scunthorpe
Jimmy Ryan’s stoppage-time leveller salvaged a point for the Iron in an entertaining affair at the Banks’s. Adam Chambers headed Walsall into the lead before Garry Thompson equalised from close range. Will Grigg’s superb far-post volley restored the Saddlers’ advantage, but Ryan’s 94th-minute strike earned Scunthorpe a deserved draw.
