EVANS' DEBUT DELIGHT

22 October 2015

Loanee on the scoresheet in impressive Barnsley win...

Manchester City loanee George Evans was ‘delighted’ after marking his Saddlers debut with a well-taken goal against Barnsley.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who has made one first-team appearance for his parent club, joined Walsall on a 28-day loan deal on Tuesday morning.

Evans was handed a starting berth for the evening’s match at Oakwell and capped an impressive display with our opening goal in an impressive 2-0 win.

“It was a great win and the team were excellent,” said Evans.

“We played it out from the back and kept playing in a very positive way.

“I was delighted to get my first goal.

“It’s pleasing to score any goal but a debut goal is certainly one to remember.

“The first 24 hours were great and the lads have been awesome.

“It’s a tight-knit group and they’ve all been very welcoming and made it easy for me to settle in.”

Evans, who has also played on loan at fellow League One sides Crewe and Scunthorpe, is relishing the challenge ahead.

“I spoke to Jordy Hiwula, who was on loan here last year (from Man City), and he only had good things to say about the club. It’s a very exciting group.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead here.

“I’ll keep working hard and hopefully I can keep my place in the team.

“The gaffer showed real faith in me to put me in and I want to repay that faith with my performances.”
