FORGOTTEN SADDLERS – BIANCALANI

10 June 2013

Profiling those Saddlers that came and went in the blink of an eye...

AS WE embark upon a year of celebration to mark Walsall FC’s 125th Anniversary, a lot will, quite rightly, be said about the most popular players or those who have made the most appearances for the club over the years.

But what about those players that came and went in the blink of an eye? They may have only appeared on a handful of occasions, but nevertheless, have made a contribution to the history of this great club of ours.

We will be highlighting some of the forgotten Saddlers from the Bescot Years, continuing with talented Frenchman who helped us preserve our status in the second-tier of English football in 2001/02...

Having made an immediate return to Division One (or The Championship as it is now known) in 2001/02, we searched far and wide for players with the necessary quality to help us consolidate our position at the higher level.

Frenchman, Frederic Biancalani was one such player as he was signed from Nancy where he had come through the ranks to appear in the French top-flight.

Making 15 starts and a further six outings off the bench, he was an assured presence both in the heart of the side and in a defensive role and weighed in with two goals, both in the month of December 2001.

He returned to Nancy after a year with The Saddlers in which he helped us to achieve our objective.

Continuing to perform at the top level in his homeland, he went on to join FC Metz in August 2009 before serving Stade Reims in recent years.
