Central defender on FA Cup exit at Shrewsbury...

SADDLERS’ defender, Paul Downing , was disappointed to see us fall at the first hurdle in the FA Cup at the hands of Shrewsbury Town.

“We’re all disappointed in there,” he said. “We’ve set ourselves high standards in recent weeks and we have fallen below them on this occasion.

“Too many of us didn’t turn up today. The opportunity was there for us to extend our unbeaten run  and progress in the FA Cup, but we didn’t take it.

“The first half was flat; there was nothing in it, no purpose. They got the goal and then we had a couple of chances but not enough to get back into it.

“The games continue to come thick and fast, so we have the chance to get back at it on Saturday.

“It’s a run of away games and we need to get points on the board and perform to the levels that we know we are capable of.

“We have to stick together and be hard to beat to ensure that we get those points on the board and bounce back from this.”
