CREWE VS. WALSALL: RECENT MEETINGS

10 February 2016

Three of the last four meetings have ended in 1-1 draws...

Ahead of this weekend’s visit to Crewe, we take a look back at the Saddlers’ last five matches against the Alex…

26th September 2015 - Walsall 1-1 Crewe - League One
Walsall were left to rue a catalogue of missed opportunities after being held to a frustrating home draw by lowly Crewe. Tom Bradshaw’s early header put the Saddlers ahead, but Ben Nugent equalised with a firm left-footed drive on 18 minutes. Dean Smith's men dominated for long periods but just couldn't find a winner, with Jason Demetriou hitting the bar and Bradshaw blazing wastefully over.

18th April 2015 – Crewe 1-1 Walsall - League One
Tom Bradshaw's deflected 81st-minute equaliser rescued Walsall a point and kept Crewe embroiled in relegation trouble. Marcus Haber headed the Alex in front on 13 minutes from Nicky Ajose's cross - just seconds after slamming a one-on-one effort against the woodwork. But the Saddlers levelled late on, when Bradshaw's shot took a wicked deflection off Harry Davis and wrong-footed home keeper Paul Rachubka.

18th October 2014 – Walsall 0-1 Crewe - League One
Walsall dropped into the relegation zone after Alex Dugdale's late strike earned rock-bottom Crewe their first away win of the season. Mathieu Manset, Jordan Cook and Romaine Sawyers each had chances for the Saddlers, only for Dugdale to blast home Crewe's 86th-minute winner from close range.

11th March 2014 – Walsall 1-1 Crewe- League One
Mark Ellis’s injury-time own goal earned Walsall a draw and denied Crewe a vital victory in their battle against relegation. Chuks Aneke capitalised on a fortunate ricochet to fire Crewe in front on 52 minutes but the Saddlers equalised when Ellis inadvertently headed into his own net. Milan Lalkovic then almost won it for the hosts with a 20-yard pile-driver which clattered against the bar.

14th September 2013 – Crewe 0-3 Walsall - League One
Craig Westcarr scored two goals in three second-half minutes as Walsall cruised past Crewe. The ex-Chesterfield striker fired the Saddlers ahead with a deflected shot on 66 minutes, before doubling the lead with a penalty after being fouled by Gregor Robertson. Substitute James Baxendale's composed finish rounded off a comprehensive Walsall win late on.
