NEW DEAL FOR CHAMBERS

11 June 2014

Experienced full-back pens new Banks's Stadium deal...

THE SADDLERS have today agreed a new one-year deal with James Chambers.

The experienced 33 year-old enjoyed a solid campaign last term where he appeared 44 times in all competitions, putting in some assured displays along the way and also weighing in with his first goal for the club.

Arriving at Banks’s Stadium on the eve of the 2012/13 season, he is a popular figure both on and off-the-field.

“I’m very pleased to have got this new deal sorted,” said Chambers. “I’m happy with the way that the team and I have been playing and I’m happy with the people that I work with here.

“There is a good nucleus of players already at the club and if we can build on that with some new additions, we can look forward to what the new season holds in store.

“These are exciting times and I am delighted to be part of it.”

Chambers’ career began in the youth ranks at West Bromwich Albion along with twin brother, Adam in 1996 and the pair progressed to both earn professional deals at the turn of 1999.

Going on to make 78 appearances for The Baggies, during which time he and Adam became not only the first twins to represent Albion at senior level, but also play in the Premier League.

Joining Watford, initially on loan, in August 2004, he completed a permanent switch to Vicarage Road and helped the club achieve top-flight status before his next move took him to Leicester City, via a loan spell at Cardiff City.

Within a year he was on the move again in the wake of The Foxes’ relegation with Doncaster Rovers being his next port of call.

Establishing a regular place in the Rovers’ side, his versatility in being able to play in either full-back role made him a key figure.

Making a total of 87 appearances for Rovers, he also had a seven-game loan spell at Hereford United towards the end of 2011/12 before arriving at Banks’s Stadium and serving us extremely well.
