Saddlers' Legend recalls his time at the club...

EACH Matchday Programme during the course of the 2013/14 season was dedicated to a Walsall FC Legend from down the decades as part of our 125th Anniversary celebrations.

For the final game of the campaign, the Legend was Frank Gregg, a talented full-back who spent his entire professional career with The Saddlers, turning professional in 1959 before leaving the club in 1973, and amassed a total of 444 senior appearances along the way.

“I was both surprised and delighted to see that I was the subject of the final programme,” said Gregg, who is still based in his hometown of Stourbridge. “Even though I left the club 40 years ago, it means so much that I am still remembered.

“It was great to see the articles and old photos and reminisce with my wife about the good times that I had here and the many friends that we both made along the way – the grandchildren were most impressed too!

“I can’t believe where the time has gone; it seems like only yesterday that I was playing for the club.

“I still keep in touch with Colin Harrison. We became good friends during our playing days here and our families have remained close ever since. In my mind Colin is a true Walsall FC Legend and what a fantastic and dedicated professional he was.

“I would like to thank you for the feature and please pass on my best wishes to everyone involved with the club, especially those who remember me from my time here.

“It was a great club to be involved with and I am proud to have spent my entire professional career serving The Saddlers.”
