AS WE embark upon a year of celebration to mark Walsall FC’s 125th Anniversary, a lot will, quite rightly, be said about the most popular players or those who have made the most appearances for the club over the years.But what about those players that came and went in the blink of an eye? They may have only appeared on a handful of occasions, but nevertheless, have made a contribution to the history of this great club of ours.
We will be highlighting some of the forgotten Saddlers from the Bescot Years, continuing with a striker who helped us achieve only the second title in our history...
Having fallen into The Football League’s basement division, Richard Money was handed the task of getting the club back on track and one of his first signings in the summer of 2006 was Hector Sam.
The Trinidad & Tobago International striker first arrived in the UK with Wrexham in 2000 and soon impressed with his prowess in front of goal.
Serving the Welsh club well, he then moved on to Port Vale where things didn’t pan out as expected and so he was allowed to join The Saddlers.
A real character, who played the game with a smile on his face, he went on to score seven times as we secured only the second-ever title in our history.
He was released after just a season with the club and moved on to Notts County, where he was to stay until March 2008 before he headed home to his former club, San Juan Jabloteh at the turn of 2009.
