BILLY SETS THE STANDARDS

Clifford delighted to get first start...

BILLY Clifford was handed his first Saddlers’ start at the weekend and put in a neat and tidy display in the heart of the team which saw him pick up the Man of the Match honours as we shared the spoils with Bradford City.

“There was a great atmosphere out there,” he said. “I was obviously pleased to get my first start; it was just a shame that we couldn’t get the win that I felt we deserved.

“That said, we’ve set the standards now. Some of the football we played was excellent and the hope is that we can push on now and get the three points against Yeovil on Tuesday evening.

“If we can turn the draws into wins, we will be okay. From what I gather it was a similar story last season, but had we managed to break the deadlock against Bradford we would have gone on to get two or three.

“As I say, we played some good stuff, very much like I am used to from my time at Chelsea. The way we play here really suits me and it’s made it easy for me to settle in, to be fair.”

Clifford is hoping to keep his place for the visit of Yeovil on Tuesday, a team that he served on loan at the start of last term.

“I want to start every game, “he went on. “But I do feel that I owe myself a good performance against Yeovil.

“I’m looking forward to it and hopefully I can play my part in helping us pick up three points.”
