WHITNEY: THE SCORELINE FLATTERED THEM

11 February 2017

Saddlers beaten 4-1 at the Macron...

Jon Whitney felt his side did not deserve to be on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat at Bolton this afternoon.

Erhun Oztumer’s spectacular half-volley gave the Saddlers a dream start, but strikes from Gary Madine, Liam Trotter, Chris Long and a Jim O’Connor own goal sealed victory for the Trotters.

“I didn’t think it was a 4-1 result,” said Whitney. “People who weren’t at the game will probably see the scoreline and think it was an easy win for Bolton, but I don’t think it was.

“We were disappointed with the first goal as it came from a set-piece, and the second one came from another set-piece.

“Jimmy was a bit unfortunate with the own goal and it was disappointing as we started really well with Oztumer’s goal.

“In the second half I thought we dominated for long periods and they were on the rack a little bit.

“I couldn’t fault the effort from the lads and I’m not going to get on their back after the run we’ve had.

“Their heads aren’t down and we’re already looking forward to Scunthorpe, which will be a chance to bounce back.”
