LAIRD: THE PRESSURE IS OFF

28 March 2017

Saddlers head to Bradford tomorrow...

Scott Laird feels the pressure is off his side heading into the final seven matches of the League One season.

The Saddlers sit in 12th place, ten points adrift of the play-offs and 11 points clear of the relegation zone.

Despite losing our last two games, the Scunthorpe loanee is still looking up the table and remains hopeful of the team’s top-six chances.

And the 28-year-old believes we can enter our final games with no fear - starting with Bradford this Saturday.

“The pressure is off us,” said Laird. “I’ve been involved in promotion teams who get in during the last ten games and they win seven or eight of the last ten.

“Until it’s mathematically impossible to get into those play-offs, it’s still on – why can’t we win seven in a row?

“I know people will be thinking ‘come on, give it a rest and let’s focus on next season’ but why can’t we go to Bradford and pick up a result?

“We’ve got Oxford after that and if you pick two results up there, then all of a sudden you’ve got five games left and if you win five out of five you might sneak in there.

“It’s a weird one and we’ve got to rely on other teams to slip up, but we’re not looking too far ahead.

“We’ll be looking to go out, express ourselves and work on things that we’ve been working really hard on in training over the past two weeks and implement that against Bradford.
