Three Saddlers in action yesterday...

NEIL ETHERIDGE

Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge kept a clean sheet as the Philippines were held to a goalless draw by Malaysia in an international friendly.

The 27-year-old had an easy night, not having to make a single save as Malaysia failed to register a shot on target.

The Philippines created the better chances, with Aguinaldo heading wide and Tigers keeper Mohd Khairulazhon thwarting Phil Younghusband and Hikaru Minegishi.

Younghusband also had an early goal disallowed for offside, while both teams had penalty appeals waved away.

The Azkals are back in action on Monday when they face Neal in an AFC Asian Cup 2019 qualifier.

ANDREAS MAKRIS

Forward Andreas Makris started for Cyprus in their 3-1 friendly win over Kazakhstan in Nicosia.

Tanat Nusserbayev slotted the visitors into a first-half lead, but three goals in ten second-half minutes from Nestoras Mitidis, Franos Katelaris and Demetris Christofi earned Cyprus victory.

Makris completed the full 90 minutes and will be hoping to feature again in Cyprus’ 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Estonia in two days’ time.

SIMEON JACKSON

Striker Simeon Jackson played 76 minutes of Canada’s 1-1 international friendly draw with Scotland at Hibernian’s Easter Road.

Fraser Aird fired the Canucks ahead early on but Steven Naismith diverted in Tom Cairney’s shot to draw Gordon Strachan’s side level ten minutes before half-time.

Jackson, who was making his 49th international appearance for Canada, started up front before being withdrawn for Ben Fisk 14 minutes from time.
