Pre-match: Priestley Farquharson previews clash against his former club

9 February 2024

Walsall defender Priestley Farquharson is looking forward to an action-packed couple of weeks as the Saddlers face seven games in a short period of time.

Farquharson is making sure he and his teammates are managing themselves off the pitch to make sure they can maximise their performances in this upcoming period as much as possible.

“It’s all about discipline on the pitch for me really. To follow a diet, make sure you are recovering, eating well, sleeping well, all of these are going to be massive,” he said.

“I think the gaffer said seven games in 21 days, which sounds bonkers, but this is the cards we’ve been dealt so we have just got to deal with it and crack on.”

This quick turnaround of games at this point in the season could be hugely influential for the Saddlers, especially with the club sat just six points off the play-off places.

“Football can change just like that. You can go on a run and just push up the table and then you get closer and closer, and the belief might kick in for the supporters,” he explained.

“The belief for us is here and we believe we can get up to those playoff spots and push through it and keeping going up with points. It might be tough, but football isn’t easy, and we believe.”

Farquharson, who knows Newport County well having played for them, thinks that with the visit of this in-form opponent on Saturday could be an important game heading into the hectic fixture schedule.

“They are flying at the moment, but they have good staff, good management, the gaffer there has got them drilled well,” he commented.

“I sort of know how they work so it will be really tough, but we are at home, we are confident, and we feel like we can punish their weaknesses as well.

“I feel like it will be a good game. We need to get that run of games and hopefully creep up the table - starting on Saturday.”
