Loan watch: Maher and Weir both get on the scoresheet

8 April 2024

Ronan Maher and Evan Weir both continue to excel on loan at Rushall Olympic and Drogheda United respectively.

Here is how both players got on over the weekend...

RONAN MAHER

Ronan Maher found the net in Rushall Olympic’s crucial 2-1 victory away at Blyth Spartans on Saturday.

Owen Oseni opened the scoring after 23 minutes and five minutes later, Maher doubled their lead as he pounced to finish from close range.

Luke James pulled one back for Blyth on 56 minutes to half the deficit for the hosts but their task was made harder when Will McGowan was sent off.

Rushall held on to secure their second successive victory which takes them to 50 points and they remain one place above the relegation zone on goal difference in National League North.

As for Maher, he took his goal tally for the Pics to four in the league.

Rushall host bottom club Bishop’s Stortford in their next match tomorrow evening.

EVAN WEIR

Evan Weir also got on the scoresheet for Drogheda United in their 2-2 draw with league leaders Shelbourne on Friday night.

Weir gave Drogheda a 2-1 lead when his free-kick took a deflection and wrongfooted the goalkeeper.

The Drogs suffered late heartache as Shelbourne equalised in the 94th minute.

The result leaves Drogheda ninth in the League of Ireland table.

Weir is now up to three goals for the current season.

Drogheda are back in action this Friday as they host Derry City.
