Jellis discusses his EFL debut and looks ahead to Swindon clash

16 April 2024

Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis has called on everyone to regroup and stick together ahead of another crucial encounter at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

The Saddlers will be looking to bounce back from Saturday’s defeat against Notts County when they take on Swindon Town tonight.

Jellis has also praised Saddlers fans for how their support really benefits the team, particularly at home and is determined to move on from the disappointing defeat on Saturday and focus on the task at hand against the Robins this evening.

“We can’t dwell on the performance, we can only move forward, focus on Tuesday and get the three points," he said.

"We’re going to need every single one of the fans to get behind us because they are influential in the way we play, getting behind us.

“We need everyone pulling in the right direction, they may not think it but we really do need them as much as we need each other on the pitch. Stick with us and hopefully we can deliver on the pitch and we can get to where we want to go.

“I think it shows the belief and the buzz we have around the training ground that we still believe we can get the job done.

“We can’t control anything elsewhere; all we can focus on is the next two home games and we’ll go into the last game of the season and go from there.”

The 23-year-old made his long-awaited debut on Saturday, coming off the bench against the Magpies.

While it wasn’t quite in the circumstances he would have liked to have made his EFL debut in, he was pleased to get on the pitch after a difficult start to life at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

“Joining back in January, it’s been a tough road for me,” he admitted.

“I’ve had a few close encounters in the last couple of weeks and it was a massive relief to get on the bench. I didn’t come on in the best of circumstances but I tried to prove a point, show what I can do within the period I came on and hopefully it was a positive impact.”
