Comley: "We take it game by game"

9 April 2024

Walsall midfielder Brandon Comley insists the team are not looking too far ahead and all eyes are firmly on this evening’s match away at Doncaster Rovers.

The 28-year-old scored his first goal of the season with a terrific strike from distance to help the Saddlers earn a second successive victory and keep in touch with the play-off places.

The Saddlers have five games remaining this season, with three coming at home but Comley stressed the team are only thinking about tonight’s clash with Doncaster and aren’t looking past the next task.

“We take it game by game,” Comley said.

“I think that’s the most important thing for us to do, not get carried away or look too far ahead and assess what we need to do for each game when it comes.

“Hopefully come the end of these five games we are in the position we want to be but I think it’s very important we don’t look too far ahead and we take it game by game.”

Comley netted his first goal since the opening day of the 2022/23 season with his strike at Tranmere on Saturday.

He enjoyed sharing a special moment with teammates and fans alike after the ball hit the back of the net as he tried to recall his fantastic strike.

“It was all a bit of a blur,” he admitted.

“I picked it up, I didn’t see much else, I saw a little gap so I thought why not. Luckily enough it went in so happy days.

“A lot of the time my job is filling gaps up for people that step forward and get into attacking positions.

“It’s not often I’m in there with a clear chance to shoot but (on Saturday) I was. I’ve been dying for one and I thought today’s the day so I’m going to have a whack.

“It was very special; I almost didn’t run (to the fans) but Stirky (Ryan Stirk) grabbed me and threw me to them so it was a special moment.

“I’m pleased for the fans; we gave them a good performance and I’m thanking them for the support as they always do.”
