Previous Meeting: Walsall 3-1 Bristol Rovers

5 October 2018

Ahead of tomorrow's League One clash with Bristol Rovers, Joshua Bunting takes a look at a previous meeting between the sides, this one coming in January 2017...

Goals from Eoghan O'Connell, Simeon Jackson and Joe Edwards saw the Saddlers beat Bristol Rovers 3-1 at the Banks's Stadium.

Neil Etheridge thwarted Rovers twice in the first half, producing excellent saves to keep out Billy Bodin's curler and Chris Lines' fierce free-kick.

The Saddlers took the lead just before half-time when O'Connell pounced on Lines' loose header to lash home a six-yard volley.

Rovers could have equalised on 57 minutes as Ollie Clarke's low cross found Taylor unmarked but he fired straight at Etheridge from 12 yards.

They were made to pay for that miss as Walsall doubled the lead on 68 minutes, substitute Jackson with a sublime lob over keeper Joe Lumley after Flo Cuvelier's lofted ball.

The Saddlers went 3-0 up on 73 minutes as Edwards robbed Byron Moore before coolly slotting home.

Taylor pulled one back on 82 minutes, heading home a consolation after Etheridge misjudged a Lee Brown cross, but Walsall ran out comfortable winners.

It was a good day for the Saddlers, who dominated with 58% possession and 11 attempts on goal.
