The young centre-back played more than 30 games for the Saddlers during the 2016/17 season.

A product of the Club’s youth system, the Birmingham-born defender captained Walsall’s youth team and was named the 2012/13 Apprentice of the Season.

The 21-year-old penned his first professional contract in January 2013 before moving on loan to Icelandic side IBV and Northern Premier League outfit Barwell.

He made his Saddlers debut as a late substitute in a 3-2 victory over Rochdale in February 2015, and was handed his first senior start against Morecambe in the JPT the following season.

Preston made 13 league and cup appearances in 2015/16, scoring twice, and netted one goal in 36 outings last term.
