Roy Whalley

Born in Walsall, Roy is a lifelong supporter.

He attended Alumwell Junior School and Edward Shelley High School before embarking on a career in education.


Roy worked at Manor High School from 1968 to 1986 and, during that time held posts including Head of Sixth Form and Deputy Head Teacher as well as obtaining BA and Med. He worked with Barrie Blower and Tom Hargreaves in the Save Walsall Action Group (SWAG) in a successful campaign to prevent a ground sharing plan that would have taken the Club out of the town to play home games at St Andrews, home of Birmingham City FC.


Within days of Walsall being taken over by Terry Ramsden he was offered the opportunity to become Club / Company Secretary, a position he held for over 20 years. Roy joined the Board of Directors in 1988 and Chief Executive, under Chairman Jeff Bonser, in 1991.


 In 2010 he relinquished his role of Chief Executive, continuing as Commercial Director until retirement in 2013. Roy has continued as a Director of the Club and still plays an integral part in the commercial operation most notably commercialising the Midpoint M6 Advertising Sign.
