Walsall Women end campaign with emphatic victory

13 May 2024

Walsall Women finished their league campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory away at Newcastle Town Women.

Jacqueline Corazza scored twice while Mia Fellows rounded off her outstanding season with yet another goal.

Jess Bate also got on the scoresheet as Steve Guest’s team ended the campaign positively with a four match unbeaten run.

The Saddlers finished with 35 points from their 20 league games and currently sit in third place. There are still a handful of teams who could surpass Walsall with their games in hand with all fixtures set to be completed by the end of May.

Walsall have made significant progress compared to last year and boss Guest is hoping the team can still remain in the top four once all games are concluded which he feels would be a successful outcome.

“The objective from Matt (Willis) and I was top four,” Guest said.

“We looked at the squad we were bringing in, the players that were staying and we felt we’d be a top four team this season as long as everyone is pulling in the right direction and I think we will achieve that.”

Attention will now switch to next season and the hard work starts now as Walsall Women will be aiming to improve next term.

Guest revealed that players have been targeted already and is determined to build a team that can challenge for promotion and progress in the cup competitions.

“We’ve got a few targets that we’re looking at,” he revealed.

“We’ve got a wish list of players that could come and set the standard and push this group forward again.

“We’re not looking for a full overhaul, it’ll probably only be three or four players in key positions where we’ve looked at this season so it’s just about bringing in quality players in those areas and I think we’ll have a team that can win promotion, have good runs in the cups and fingers crossed, a good run in the FA Cup as well.”
