Walsall defender Liam Gordon is remaining positive after Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against a competitive Barrow side.
Gordon feels the Saddlers missed an opportunity to secure victory on home soil but understands that it was equally important to take a point with the away side also having chances to win the game.
“It’s frustrating because we are at home and the chances we had I think we should have buried them, especially at the start of the second half,” Gordon said.
“I was saying during the game if we don’t win this, we don’t lose this. If we back it up on Saturday at Colchester it’s a massive point at home to a team that are above us and in the playoffs.”
Having joined ahead of last season, Gordon has seen how the club has changed in that small period of time and cites that the mentality has improved this term.
“In the second half after our chances they had a spell where they were over us, they hit the post and they were doing what they are good at – putting it into the big man and playing off of him,” Gordon explained.
“It was working for a large part of the second half, but I think we dealt with it well and just came together and said look we have just got to ride this wave at the moment and regroup when we get a chance to settle on the ball. Let’s get playing and do what we know we can do and what we’re best at.”
With the Saddlers having several players out on the sidelines this season, every player has had to play their part, but Gordon still thinks everyone is fighting for the same cause.
“With the number of changes everyone now knows what we are rooting for, everyone knows the goals that we set for ourselves, and everyone is on the same path,” Gordon discussed.
“No matter if you are starting, out of the squad, injured boys looking to come back, everyone knows that you have got a vital role to play as Foulkes did today coming in for Knowles.
“Everyone is pushing in the same direction, and I just hope we can carry on doing that and remain positive.”
