Brandon Comley honoured to captain the Saddlers

15 March 2024

Saddlers midfielder Brandon Comley says it was an honour to captain the side in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw over AFC Barrow and that he will continue to try his best for however long he may have the armband.

With Donervon Daniels and Jamille Matt both missing through injury, Head Coach Mat Sadler handed the 28-year-old the role of leading the team and Comley is keen to keep being a leader of men whilst he has the armband.

“It was definitely an honour to wear the armband on Tuesday night and lead the boys out,” he began.

“It’s an honour to be part of the club and I feel like I am doing something which I have seen all of the other boys do and do it very well so I am just trying to carry on that same vibe.

“We have got a lot of young boys in the group but there are a lot of boys there who know their stuff, like Taylor Allen, I can always hear him talking in games.

“For me it doesn’t matter who has got the armband, there should be 11 leaders on the pitch and I like to think that I help the boys out even when I don’t have the armband.

“As I said, it is an honour to wear it and as long as I have the armband for, I will try my best to help the boys out as much as I can.”

The holding midfielder has now featured in the last 20 games in all competitions for the Saddlers, a run stretching back to the 1-0 win in the FA Cup over Alfreton Town and now he feels like it’s the perfect time to get ourselves back on an unbeaten run.

“You look at the Forest Green game, we were dominant there but we just need to be switched on at all times in the games and that is more relevant in games where we are going to have more control,” Comley continued.

“I think if we just take our chances, we can win games. It is important now that we get back on a run, start picking up points because it’s the business end of the season with nine games to go.

“I think if we can marry the two together, we can definitely do something and get into those play-offs.”
