Walsall Women returned to winning ways in emphatic style with a rampant victory over Lichfield City on Sunday.
Rhiannon Bate opened the scoring after just four minutes but the contest was still in the balance at half-time as the Saddlers went in with a one-goal advantage.
Bate scored her second just four minutes into the second half to double Walsall’s lead and the floodgates opened from there as Mia Fellows added a third on 62 minutes to put the game beyond doubt.
Just eight minutes after coming off the bench, Chloe Astell added a fourth and with six minutes to go, Devonne Barrett scored Walsall’s fifth to round off a comfortable afternoon at Dales Lane.
The victory briefly took Steve Guest’s team to the top of the table but Telford’s victory over Leek Town later that day saw them reclaim top spot on goal difference.
Walsall Women will return to action on Sunday 28th January with a trip to Coventrians in the league.
