Josh Gordon returns to Walsall!

11 January 2024

Walsall Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of striker Josh Gordon from League One club Burton Albion on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Gordon is a familiar face to Saddlers fans having spent three years at the Poundland Bescot Stadium from 2018 to 2021, joining us from Leicester City.

The forward scored 27 times during his first spell in WS1. He bagged nine goals in his first season at the Club in League One, which was also his first full campaign in the EFL.

He netted 12 goals overall in his second campaign with the Saddlers, including a hat-trick against Forest Green Rovers in the EFL Trophy, by March when the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

After leaving the West Midlands in 2021, he joined Barrow and enjoyed his best scoring campaign in the 2022/23 season as he netted 15 times in League Two.

His performances for the Bluebirds caught the eye of the Brewers who he joined last summer.

Gordon is happy to be back at the Poundland Bescot Stadium and is relishing the opportunity to return.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Gordon said.

“I want to come out here, get games and hopefully do what I did last season - score goals and enjoy my football.

“It’s a club close to my heart so I’ve always been looking out for the results.

“I’ve been speaking to the Head Coach for a while. I’ve played with him, I know what he’s about so when we had a conversation, it just felt right for me to come here and enjoy my football, which is what he wants me to do.

“I want to score goals and help us get to where we want to get to.”

Head Coach Mat Sadler is pleased to be able to orchestrate Gordon's return to Poundland Bescot Stadium, believing that he will be a positive influence in the dressing room and an effective fit for the desired style of play.

“We’re looking forward to having Josh working with us,” Sadler said. "There were multiple clubs in for him in a very tight market for strikers, so we're really pleased to get it over the line."

“I know Josh well; I know his strengths and I know what he will bring to the team.

“He fits the profile of someone who I want in the dressing room, in the environment but also in terms of work rate, desire, honesty, and willingness to put a shift in.

“I’m looking forward to working with him from this side of the fence as opposed to being a player with him.”

Gordon will be available to be considered for selection at this weekend’s game against Stockport County.
