Jamie Jellis joins the Saddlers from Tamworth!

25 January 2024

Walsall Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Jamie Jellis from National League North leaders Tamworth for an undisclosed fee on an 18-month contract with the option of a further year in the Club’s favour.

The exciting 23-year-old has excelled for the Lambs this season having netted four goals and playing a key role in their ascent to the top of the division.

He initially moved to the Lamb Ground in November 2022, joining on loan from Kings Langley. A second loan spell followed later that season as he helped them win promotion to the National League North and he has gone on to play 50 times for Tamworth.

His football journey began at Aylesbury United as a youngster before he was picked up by Stevenage in 2017, where he went on to sign his first professional contract in 2020.

He’s also had spells at the likes of Hemel Hempstead, St Albans.

Jellis has made fantastic progress in recent years and is excited by the challenge of stepping up to the EFL with the Saddlers.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here,” Jellis said.

“This is what I have been working towards since I got released from my last pro contract.

“I work hard, I like to get around the pitch and in the last few months I’ve started to chip in with a few more goals and assists so I’m hoping I can bring all that to the team.

“I want to come in and help the boys. I know they’re a good group of lads so if we can string a run of results together, we can look to push up the table.”

Head Coach Mat Sadler is delighted to have won the race to acquire the player’s signature.

“I’m really pleased to have signed Jamie,” Sadler said.

“We’ve watched Jamie over the last couple of months and he’s done really well at Tamworth so we’ve done a lot of work on him and we’re pleased to get it done because there were a lot of clubs who were after him so we beat off competition to sign Jamie.

“We’re trying to piece things together for not only this season, but for seasons ahead and Jamie fits in to that.

“He’s a box-to-box midfield player with high energy and he fits into the type of player we want here to grow and improve.”
