Donervon Daniels focusing on positives heading into busy February

30 January 2024

Captain Donervon Daniels was keen to take the positives from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sutton United as the Saddlers prepare for a busy February.

In a month that will see seven league matches take place, four at the Poundland Bescot Stadium and three on the road, Daniels wanted to focus on the positive of picking up a point but admitted that the group didn’t quite play to the high standards that they have set themselves from recent performances.

“To take the positives from it, it’s a point at home after a little bit of a gap in terms of games,” Daniels began.

“I felt like we showed good bits in part of the game against Sutton but we didn’t play to our own high standards of what we expect from each other so there is frustration within that from the groups perspective.

“It is a point in the right direction, we have got a lot of games coming up and we have got to use that to start building the momentum again.”

The skipper scored his first ever goal at the Poundland Bescot Stadium in the draw against Sutton and he reflected on the pride that it brought to him to finally score at home.

“It is my first goal at the Poundland Bescot which I am really proud and happy with,” he continued.

“It is something that I have been huffing and puffing at for a while now to get.

“I feel like the link-up play down that left-hand side between me, Liam Gordon and Jack Earing is always there and today the opportunity presented itself and with a little bit of composure, there was a half decent finish so I am happy with the goal.”
