It was a bad day of the office for Walsall who suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Newport County.
Three first half goals lead to an uneventful second period, with neither side having any big chances.
Mat Sadler made one change to the XI that started last week’s 1-1 draw away at Gillingham.
Ryan Stirk came in for Jack Earing, with Aramide Oteh making his first appearance in the matchday squad for over four months.
The scoring was opened four minutes in when Bryn Morris' shot from the edge of the box took a deflection, leaving Owen Evans in goal helpless.
Walsall hit back quickly, with two corners and a scintillating Liam Gordon run through the middle coming in quick succession.
The visitors were quick to double their lead however, through Will Evans on 15 minutes. After the ball fell kindly to him inside the box, he struck it with power into the top-left corner from a tight angle.
Liam Gordon had another go through the middle soon after. His shot from outside the box was saved and Josh Gordon latched onto the rebound but Nick Townsend in net saved again, pushing it out for another Walsall corner.
The third was added by substitute Harry Charsley on 38 minutes. A throw-in knocked on into the box was met by Charsley, with his header looping over Evans.
In the second half, a shot from Donervon Daniels from outside the area was the highlight in a 45 minutes that didn’t see much action.
A disappointing afternoon for The Saddlers was capped off with Evans receiving a red card for handling the ball outside the area to stop an attack.
There were no further goals and Newport claimed all three points.
