Head Coach hails 'unbelievable' home support

28 February 2024

Saddlers Head Coach Mat Sadler has praised the impact that supporters had during Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Accrington Stanley at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Accrington went ahead against the run of play early on in the second half when Jack Nolan found the bottom corner from the penalty spot but goals from David Okagbue and Emmanuel Adegboyega completed the turnaround for Sadler’s side.

The Head Coach was quick to praise the near 5,000 Saddlers fans who were in the stadium on the night, hailing them as ‘unbelievable’

“I thought we dominated from minute one until the end,” Sadler began.

“I thought we were absolutely brilliant tonight and physically dominated the game.

“A half time, we went in at 0-0 but I thought we should have had a penalty, there’s one that has crossed the line which I am not going to moan about because of the Mansfield Town one a few weeks back, and then we had two or three more chances and I think on another night we go in at least one or two nil up.

“We then have the sucker punch of them going ahead very much against the run of play. To the come back in the manner that we did, it was a fantastic performance.

“I thought the supporters were unbelievable, especially when we went 1-0 down. They were unbelievable all night but going behind, the response and the reaction they gave the players, I don’t think I have seen that in not only the last season but maybe in the last six or seven seasons since I have been part of it and since we have been back in League Two.

“I really felt that connection between the supporters and the players, everyone was together.

“As I have said from minute one, these are the games that we want to be sparking something, nights like tonight when everyone is together, the whole place is united and it was definitely one of those nights.

“Maybe another thing that added into it was losing Chris Nicholl earlier in the week, maybe the emotion from that came through but once again it showed what an incredible football club it is, everyone was right together and we weren’t to be deterred from the win.”
