Faal aiming to build momentum after opening his Saddlers account

27 February 2024

Walsall striker Mo Faal feels settled at the Poundland Bescot Stadium and is hoping to build more momentum after scoring his first Saddlers goal.

The 21-year-old scored the second of the two in the impressive victory over Harrogate Town on Saturday.

Faal is hoping to build on his first goal and is pleased to have that weight off his should having bided his time.

“It’s tough being on the bench but the gaffer’s got good interests in his heart and he speaks to me all the time and I always knew I was going to be a big part of the team,” Faal explained.

“You always want to take the weight off the shoulder. What I’ve noticed is when I come into teams, it’s hard to settle in quickly so I have a run of games and once I’ve settled, I start scoring goals and hopefully, I can keep up the momentum and score more.

“Earlier on in my first few games, I had a chance I should have put away that I missed and I kind of let that get to my head.

“I speak to the gaffer and I speak to Daz (Darren Byfield) and it’s all about the confidence to let that one go because the next chance will come if you keep in the right areas so I wanted to keep a good head for when the next chance does come.”

While Faal enjoyed his first Saddlers strike as well as the victory in North Yorkshire, there is little time to dwell on it as attention turns to this evening’s clash with Accrington Stanley.”

“We’ve got another game (tonight) and another game on Saturday as well so it’s about recovery and thinking about the next game,” Faal added.
