Donervon Daniels visits local primary school

9 February 2024

Thanks to support from Trivela Group, we here at Walsall FC Foundation are able to run a programme named 'assist and achieve' at local Walsall school Caldmore Primary Academy. The initial goal for the project is 'to support, inspire and mentor children at a critical stage of their education.'

Assist and Achieve is set up and delivered around providing children within the school the opportunity to succeed within their education by helping them over come certain boundaries and obstructions that they may face throughout their life within school.

By identifying individual students within the school who require support with different aspects of their learning journey, it then allows our Foundation member of staff and the school to tailor their approach in different ways in order to have the greatest impact upon the individuals who are part of the project.

It was a pleasure to be joined by Walsall FC captain Donervon Daniels at the school earlier this week to meet some of these children.

Donervon joined in on the student’s lesson in which the group discussed the importance of being resilient and persisting towards goals despite obstacles that may pop up along the way. The captain then led a question and answer session with the children in which he shared his experiences as a professional football player and gave out inspiring life advice surrounding education and beyond.

Following the end of our visit, Donervon had this to say;

“It’s great coming out to schools like Caldmore, the kids had some incredible questions about myself, but also I had the chance to learn more about them.

"It’s just a really positive interaction, being present and allowing them to have a different face in the class room.

"This has been very educational for me and my career, there are a lot of different minority groups within this school and so I hope visits like this help showcase that there are many opportunities out in the world for them.”

We have already seen positive developments and results through delivering the Assist and Achieve project and hope to continue working alongside our partner school Caldmore moving forward.
