Adegboyega describes winning goal as a fairy-tale

19 February 2024

Saddlers defender Emmanuel Adegboyega described his winning goal against Mansfield Town as a fairy-tale.

The 20-year-old stepped off the bench at half time to make his first ever EFL appearance for the Saddlers and he capped it off in style by heading in Walsall’s second and winning goal.

Adegboyega was delighted after the match and was over the moon to mark his league debut for the club with a goal.

“To get the winner on my debut, the feeling is fantastic, I don’t even know how to explain it,” he said.

“Right now, it doesn’t even seem real. Coming on at half time, taking the place of Priestley (Farquharson) to score the winner. It feels like a fairy-tale.

“I scored my first professional goal back in Ireland but right now it feels so different in terms of scoring the winner, three points, everyone’s happy, lively and it feels fantastic.”

Adegboyega has little time to revel in his moment as attention quickly turns to tomorrow’s encounter with Morecambe at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

The busy run of fixtures continues but with the chance to build some real momentum, the defender is keen to really push on and seize the opportunity to climb the table.

“One week you can be bottom half but if you can win a couple of games, you could be in the top half of the table,” he commented.

“That’s how this league goes so hopefully we can build on what we did (on Saturday).

“In the coming weeks we have two games per week so rest and recovery is really important.”
