Pre-match: Captain Donervon Daniels relishing final home league game of the season

19 April 2024

Walsall defender Donervon Daniels is looking forward to the final home game of the season against Bradford City in what is sure to be an important game for the Saddlers.

Daniels was pleased with Tuesday night’s victory over Swindon Town, and he is aiming to carry on that team momentum into Saturday’s game where the Saddlers will have to be at their best.

“It was an important win on Tuesday night, I thought it was a good team performance. We started the game with a real energy, on the front foot,” Daniels said.

“Being at home with our supporters behind us obviously gave us that extra push that we needed, especially coming towards the most important bit of the season.

“Quickly our focus has shifted to Saturday, another home game, another opportunity to put in a really important performance. It’s the last home game of the season so we are really looking forward to it.”

Daniels sustained a serious injury in February and has only recently come back into the starting line-up, making two starts in the Saddlers’ previous two games but is pleased to be back.

“It was important for me to be out there and put in a solid performance. I felt like I was back to my best self on Tuesday night, I felt I represented myself and my team to the best of my ability,” Daniels explained.

“Obviously, it was highly frustrating from a personal point of view when I first came back in the MK Dons game. I felt it was a bit too soon for my own standards.

“I’m back in the team now and all I want to do is give my all for my teammates and for this club because that’s all I’ve been doing ever since I’ve been here.”

With the Saddlers having one of the best home records in League Two, Daniels is hoping that the fans will once again come out in their numbers to support their team for the end of season push.

“Our support at home has been incredible throughout the course of the season. Saturday is our last opportunity to give our home support something to be proud of,” Daniels discussed.

“I’m sure they have been proud of us because of how well we’ve done this season, but we still have two very important games, and we have to take it one step at a time.

“Saturday’s game is going to be a tough game. It’s going to be heightened emotions, it’s going to be everything you could potentially want in a game, it’s going to be on the line.”
