Pre-match: Allen looks ahead to Notts County challenge

12 April 2024

Walsall defender Taylor Allen is looking to put Tuesday night’s defeat to Doncaster Rovers behind him, starting with a home tie on Saturday afternoon versus a talented Notts County side.

With defences sometimes hard to break down from open play, Allen believes the Saddlers need to take advantage of set piece situations, like they have all season.

“Set pieces are a chance to go and score a goal. We work on them a lot in detail and it’s just down to us to put a good delivery in and for the lads to go and get their head on it,” Allen said.

“I think recently we have been causing loads of problems from set pieces and if we can get a few more goals from them, then it will really help us.”

Although Notts County lie in 15th place, Allen knows that they will be no easy side to overcome due to the amount of individual talent within their ranks.

“They have got some good players there. They are obviously not where they want to be but it is going to be a tough game, every game in League Two is,” Allen explained.

“We have just got to be prepared and ready to impose ourselves on them and if we can do that, we can cause them real problems.”

This Saturday’s game against Notts County is the start of three home games at the Poundland Bescot Stadium but Allen is continuing to take every game as it comes, while continuing to cite the importance of the home fans.

“It’s about taking each day as it comes. We have days where we need to work on things for the weekend, so get through today and then obviously go into Saturday well prepared,” Allen discussed.

“We’ve shown with the results how they (the fans) can pull us through games. I think there have been times recently where they’ve pulled us through if we’ve been a goal down or the opposition have scored.

“They are singing for us, so it really drags us on. They’ve been amazing all season, following us away as well so hopefully we can just put it right for them and give them a good performance on Saturday.”
