Faal pleased to respond with goal against Salford

3 April 2024

Walsall striker Mo Faal says he has learnt how to remain level headed over the course of the season.

The 21-year-old, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, netted his third Saddlers goal in dramatic fashion against Salford City on Easter Monday.

Faal was frustrated after missing a couple of opportunities against MK Dons on Good Friday but feels he’s improved at reacting well to adversity and was pleased to respond with a goal just three days later.

“You can never get too low with the lows,” Faal said.

“I had chances to score in that game and I had chances to score prior to that but what you have to do is stay level headed.

“Towards the start of the season, I didn’t know how to control that, missing chances, but that’s what I’ve learnt – to keep a level head because the next one is around the corner and you have to be ready to take it so keep a level head.”

Faal kept his cool in stoppage time to find the net and he was pleased to get himself in a good position to score after he was found by Emmanuel Adegboyega, much to his relief.

“I was screaming for the ball, if he hadn’t then I would have had a word with him inside,” Faal commented.

“I like getting in those positions, facing up the defender one v one because although I am tall, I am tricky and I’m glad I could showcase that.

“I like to get my legs going and all I had in my mind there one v one was to get a half-yard and get a shot off.”

The Saddlers are in a strong position in Sky Bet League Two, just three points behind the play-off places with six games left to play.

Faal insists the team can’t look too far ahead and attention is firmly on the next task away at Tranmere Rovers.

“We’ll take every game at a time,” he insists.

“We’re trying to catch up to whoever is in front of us and one win at a time will do us.”
