First interview: New signing Harvey Griffiths excited for Saddlers loan spell

5 September 2023

New signing Harvey Griffiths is excited for his loan spell with Walsall and is keen to gain more experience.

The 19-year-old arrived from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers on transfer deadline day.

Griffiths is revealed that Head Coach Mat Sadler has been keeping tabs on him throughout pre-season and after getting his first taste of senior football with his parent club in the Carabao Cup last week, he is now looking forward to getting playing more men’s football in the EFL with the Saddlers.

“It’s that next step in my career, playing men’s football, getting the experience I need and to do it here is a real privilege,” Griffiths said.

“To have experience under your belt is a big thing as a young player so I’m looking forward to getting it.

“In pre-season, I’ve been with the first team at Wolves and Mat Sadler has been in contact throughout the whole thing but they were keeping me just in case a midfielder didn’t come so that’s why I came a bit later on but when I heard about it, I was excited to come here and I can’t wait to get going.”

Griffiths is keen to show what he can do in a Saddlers shirt and outlined what he feels he can offer to the Walsall midfield.

“I can play as a six pivot, playing deeper or I can play as a number eight where I can get up and down (the pitch),” he explained.

“I like to drive with the ball and I’d say I’m good on the ball. I can’t wait to get going.”
