Stirk calls on Saddlers to have more belief

31 October 2023

Walsall midfielder Ryan Stirk has called on the team to have more belief.

The Saddlers suffered a narrow defeat against unbeaten Mansfield Town last time out.

Mat Sadler’s team sit on 20 points after 16 matches with the team searching for consistency and Stirk revealed the team has discussed where they feel they need to improve and have highlighted belief as a key aspect.

“We’ve sat down and had a good chat about it,” Stirk said.

“I feel it comes down to belief. We’ve come (to Mansfield) and we know they’re a good team but we need to believe that we’re a good team too.

“We have showed we can compete with the top teams in this league. Belief is a massive part in it and having the confidence to come out and do what the gaffer has told us we’re going to do.

“If we start on the front foot like we are in the second half, these games can be a lot different so those are the two big ones.”

Walsall are currently 15th in Sky Bet League Two after a mixed start to the campaign. Stirk and the team are determined to improve and he is confident the team will climb the table.

“We’ve got a good group of lads in there and we’re all dying to do well,” he commented.

“We want to do well for the gaffer and the club. We’re working hard every day and we want to put things right.

“Before Saturday we had won five, drew five and lost five which to the lads in there, we know it’s not good enough. We want to be in the top half of that table and we want to be pushing. We’ve got a good group of lads, we’re all on the same page and trying to improve every day.”
