Sadler hoping to take positive feeling into clash with Crawley Town

24 October 2023

Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler is hoping his team can take the positive feeling from Friday night’s comeback into this evening’s clash with Crawley Town at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

The Saddlers have the opportunity to climb into the top half with a victory over the Red Devils who currently sit a point and a place above Walsall in 12th.

Sadler has called on his players to show similar resilience and strength that helped them come from behind three times against Newport County last time out but stressed the team will also need to adapt as he expects Scott Lindsey’s side to provide a different type of test tonight.

“Crawley are a good team,” Sadler said.

“How they’re playing is there for us all to see, they’re a really good football team and Scott’s got them playing in a really good way.

“They pass the ball really well and they’ve got really good football players. It will be a tough ask, it will be a different challenge to Friday night, it was a direct football match, it won’t be that on Tuesday and we have to be aware of the different challenges this league brings you.

“We’ve got that extra bit of recovery and we have to go into it with the positivity of what we did in terms of the comeback. It’s never easy to get a point away from home, we all know that. We showed real character and resilience and we need to show it again on Tuesday night.”

Friday’s match saw midfielder Brandon Comley step off the bench at half time to make his 50th appearance for the Saddlers.

He replaced Oisin McEntee who went off with an injury and Sadler provided an update on his situation.

“Oisin felt his groin in the first half so we had to make that change,” Sadler confirmed.

“Fingers crossed it’s not too bad but I’m fortunate to have Brandon ready to come. We’ll assess Oisin and see how he goes.

“It was fantastic for Brandon to make his 50th appearance on Friday and we look forward to many more in a Walsall shirt from him.”
