Tom Knowles keen to improve and push on next season

5 May 2023

Walsall forward Tom Knowles was pleased to have reached the landmark of 50 appearances for the Club but is keen to progress and push on next season.

The 24-year-old played his 50th game for the Saddlers against Salford City a fortnight ago and joined the likes of Owen Evans and Isaac Hutchinson in reaching the milestone in in their first season at the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Knowles has registered five goals and five assists this season.

He is aiming to improve on that tally next season but has been pleased to have featured so regularly in his first season back in the EFL after joining from Yeovil Town last summer.

“I think if you said I would play 50 games in my first year, I would have taken your hand off,” Knowles said.

“It’s testament to the coaches here that have put their faith in me and I just hope I’ve repaid them with my performances.

“I would have liked a bigger return on goals and assists but I’ll work on that over the summer and hopefully come back firing ready for next year.”

The Saddlers will conclude the 2022/23 season at home to Doncaster Rovers on Monday (12.30pm kick-off).

Knowles wants to finish the campaign on a winning note and stressed the importance of a positive finale.

“It’s a group here that when we lose, we hurt and when we draw some feel like wins, some feel like losses,” he explained.

“We’ve probably drawn too many games this year. It’s really important that we finish the season on a high and take that into next year because it’s been a tough season but there’s been some good times in it so why not end on another good one and take that into next year.”
